🔧 1. To Protect the Turbocharger

When you drive hard — especially under boost — your turbo spins extremely fast (often 100,000+ RPM) and gets very hot. If you shut the engine off immediately:

• The oil stops circulating, but the turbo remains hot.

• This can cause the remaining oil in the turbo to burn or “coke”, forming carbon deposits in the oil lines and bearings.

• Over time, this leads to premature turbo wear or failure.

A turbo timer keeps the engine idling (usually 30 seconds to 2 minutes), so:

• Cool oil continues flowing through the turbo bearings.

• The turbo’s temperature drops to a safer level.

• Oil doesn’t overheat or carbonize.
